This article explains how to view and manage your SMS limit. The SMS limit refers to a setting that can be configured on your account that determines the number of SMS messages you are able to send within a day or month. They're an effective way to:
Control your usage.
Prevent user error whereby a user might upload a misconfigured file with more recipients than intended.
Guard against API loops or integrated system bugs that might unintentionally trigger high-volume messaging.
Important:
- How the Limit is Determined: Your account's default sending limit is automatically set to 10x your plan’s included credits.
- Permissions: Only users with Admin access can adjust these limits.
- System Caps: You cannot manually set a limit higher than your system-defined maximum. If you need to raise your limit beyond this cap, please contact our support team.
- Discarded Messages: Messages that attempt to send after you hit your daily or monthly threshold will fail and display as Discarded in your logs. These must be resent manually once the limit resets or is increased.
- No Automated Reversals: We cannot configure temporary limits that automatically revert after a set period. Adjustments are permanent until you or support manually change them again.
Sending limit thresholds & alerts
To keep you informed and protect your operations, our billing system triggers specific emails and automated actions as your usage approaches your sending limit:
| Usage Threshold | Event Triggered | Action Taken |
|---|---|---|
| 40% | Email Warning | An advisory email is sent to your account admins to keep you updated on your current pace. |
| 50% | Payment Trigger | The system automatically fires a payment transaction to secure standard overage coverage. |
| 80% | Email Warning | A high-priority warning email is sent advising you that you are nearing a hard block. |
| 100% | Hard Block | Outbound messaging is temporarily paused. Messages will be Discarded until your limit resets or is manually adjusted. |
